Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

How many of us find ourselves singing ‘Whistle While You Work’ while we tackle the spring-cleaning each year? I know I do and that's because Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is my favorite Disney film.

I don’t remember the very first time I saw it because I was very little. My mum loved the film so much that she took me to see it when I was far too young.

This turned out to be one of her less successful family outings because my older sister was so terrified of the witch with her red poisoned apple that we had to leave the cinema!

When I eventually got to see this wonderful film, I was transported to a magical world. I cried and laughed and was really scared, and I was delighted because everyone actually did live happily ever after. It was totally believable to me.

From the minute that beautiful story book opens at the very start of the film and we are transported into a world of magic and fantasy, Disney brings our own imaginations to life, satisfying every little thing you could dream of or want in a princess, prince, and ugly wicked witch!

I love the scene when the seven dwarfs, named Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey, are introduced to us.

They come home from a hard day's work at a diamond mine, only to be welcomed by a sparkling clean house!

They are terrified to go upstairs to see who the intruder might be. And when they eventually see that she is a beautiful young girl, their characters come out in earnest!

One of the reasons that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is so famous is because it is the first full-length animation movie ever made.

Its premiere was in 1937 and that’s quite hard to believe because it has stood the test of time beautifully.There's nothing anyone could do to improve the film, and there has never been a remake of it (as far as I am aware!)

It has won countless awards and is regarded as Walt Disney’s true masterpiece.

Walt Disney’s animators, who attended schools of action analysis, worked for weeks and weeks on minute details in order to capture every gesture and move of each character and animal precisely. Each frame had it’s own movement and detail.

It’s incredible to think that for each second of the film they had to make twenty-four separate pencil drawings! I have included a video below that explains some of the technical ingenuity in this film.

The result was a breathtakingly beautiful film born from the incredible imagination of a genius – nothing like this had ever been done before!

The music and the songs are inspired too.

Walt Disney went on to make many other great films, but in my opinion none were ever as great as Snow White. Every child should be given the opportunity to see this film because the result of all the painstaking work is perfection.

You really do believe that every bird, forest creature, spooky tree, or twinkling diamond is absolutely real. The queen talking to the magic mirror on the wall, (I still think she is terrifying), the handsome prince on his splendid white horse, the character of each dwarf, and the grace of Snow White herself, all bring Grimm’s fairy tale to life in a way that has never been achieved since.

Perfect, really perfect. What a treat!

I wonder what visiting Disneyland is really like? Sadly they didn't exist when I was little and I haven't visited any of them since, but I know quite a few people who have and they tell me they really are magical and perfectly dreamy for children of all ages.They also do romantic weekends for adults who enjoy things like being pampered in spas, riding on breathtaking fair rides, eating in fantastic restaurants, great night-life entertainment and sleeping in dreamy hotels -all with the Disney theme of course!

A friend told me that he and his wife weren't expecting to enjoy the experience themselves, but they saved up and went ready to give their 5 year old son a time of his life! That did happen, but an unexpected bonus was how much they loved it! There's something very special about being in a dream world with a child you really do start to see things through their eyes!

There is a downside however, it's not cheap - they said that everything costs more than in the 'real world' and that there's an 'opportunity' to buy things in almost every nook and cranny. So my advice is to set a very clear budget and stick to it because it is very easy to get carried away - especially when a child wants to bring home everything that moves.

My friends waited till the very last day and then they bought one special gift for their son. They kept him happy by promising him that - and it worked! But he was only 5 I wonder if that would work with an older child.
