Who Am I?

Hi I used to be the United Kingdom Travel Contributor on Squidoo, which means that I write Hubs about wonderful places in the UK.

I am spoiled for choice when it comes to places to visit however I can honestly say that Scotland is my absolute favorite destination. Apart from its astonishing beauty I have very personal reasons for this. My husband (Graeme) is Scottish and so we have spent many extremely special times there.

Although it had always been my dream to visit Scotland, I had never been there before I met Graeme, so he introduced me to it. It was well worth the wait because sharing it with someone you love is an incredibly special thing to do.

Our son is proud to be 'half' Scottish, and we have been taking him there since he was 7 weeks old. We used to go to Fife, to a place called Glenrothes, to pick up grandma and then head off to the highlands. This lens is all about some of the places that we love.

I hope you enjoy your visit and thank you for your time.

The best way to show you Scotland is to share our photos. - Eilean Donan Castle

The Beautiful Scottish Highlands

On our way to the northwest Highlands we absolutely look forward to passing Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most beautiful of all the Scottish castles, because we know that we have arrived in the place that we truly love: The Scottish Highlands!

Glenfinnan

The Monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie

This magnificent monument marks the very spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie started the 1745 rebellion that ended so disastrously at the battle of Culloden the following year. This is another of our favorite places, which is a very good thing because one year our car started making a terrible noise. We limped along to a small village with a garage where we stayed for four days waiting for a spare part to come up from Edinburgh. Weren't we lucky!! Notice the wonderful view of the Highlands and the color of the sky!!

This sends shivers down my spine and tears to my eyes

Skye Boat Song

Kenneth McKellar is one of the most famous singers in Scotland. Here he is singing the Skye Boat Song, which is all about Bonnie Prince Charlie. You can see the Glenfinnan Monument in the background. What a beautiful song.Notice his wonderful traditional dress.

Isle of Seil

We especially like camping but in the winter it's too cold so we usually hire a little self catering cottage. Now these can be expensive so it's worth booking early. But very reasonably priced cottages in amazing places can be found too - they may not have jacuzzis and wide screen TVs but they are always in idyllic places like this!

We stayed here one February, you can see that the sun was shining! The Isle of Seil is on the west coast near Oban and is connected to the mainland by a famous bridge called the Bridge Over the Atlantic, because it takes you over a very small part of that great ocean.

The Isle of Seil is a very romantic place, it's the end of the road, and we had a fantastic time there. Our son was only 7 years old and we had a ride on a small boat that took us to a tiny island across the bay and that's when a beautiful sheep dog ate his lolly pop!

Scotland Tours: Camping

Camping in Scotland

In the summer we always go camping and we've love it! There are the most wonderful campsites all over Scotland that are very reasonably priced and have all the facilities you need. But wild camping is allowed too and I would like to encourage you to have a go at that. You can camp anywhere for a couple of nights - so much fun!

Here we are in the height of the summer season with no neighbours! There was however a fisherman who caught mackerel to use as bait for his lobster pots, and he very kindly gave us six freshly caught fish which we grilled by our tent that evening. So delicious!!

The campsite had everything we needed and very hot showers and a little shop with provisions. There was a couple of really beautiful walks that took you up into the hills too. It is a place we are yearning to go back to.

Armadale to Mallaig

I took this video while we crossed from the Isle of Skye across to Mallaig - I think you'll agree that it's a splendid ride - quite idyllic

On the other hand if you're looking for romance and comfort there is no shortage of amazing hotels and castles all over Scotland - they are in great locations where people get married and bring in the new year and all sorts of other celebrations. My son and I were just enjoying a run around their beautiful grounds that sunny day.

West Coast Beach

Honestly - this is not a Greek Island!

One of the most incredible things about Scotland is that it is never busy. Once you leave the big towns you will hardly meet anyone else. There are so many wonderful beaches just like this one. We took this photo in August, can you imagine a beach this beautiful and this empty anywhere else in Europe? We can't!

Isle of Harris

This is probably my favourite place of all so remote and wild -fantastic!!

We were there at Easter and we were alone... apart from sea gulls, seals, crabs, dolphins, and deer, and the lucky people who live in those little cottages you see in the picture.

It was very windy - and that made it one of the most incredible experiences we've ever had in Scotland. We walked for miles along this beach - talk about weather beaten!

The East Coast - The Village of Pennan

Pennan

Just in case you are thinking that only the west coast is worth a visit here is a photo of the picturesque little village of Pennan on the coast east of Inverness in the region of Moray.

Pennan is famous because it was used as a location for the film Local Hero, where it was given the name ‘Ferness’. The famous red phone box was originally just a prop, but then people demanded a real one so they set one up and now fans of the film come from every where to use it.We took this picture in the summer of 2007, and my son wore his red jacket for our own trip to the famous red phone box.

The rugged cliffs of the east coast - Scotland Vacations

This is east of Inverness on the coast of Moray. It is typical of the rugged cliffs of that part of north east Scotland. This coast line is dotted with small bays home to the fishing communities that still operate from this part of Scotland.
